Ogun State has received national recognition as the Best Performing State for Women and Children, receiving an Award of Excellence at the 26th Regular National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The award was received on behalf of the Ogun State Government by the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development and All Progressives Congress candidate for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, alongside directors from the state ministry.
Speaking at the council meeting at the invitation of the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Adeleye attributed the achievement to the commitment of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun to human-centred social policies.
Adeleye noted that the theme of the council, "Strengthening Families and Advancing the Care Economy for Inclusive Development: Operationalizing Nigeria’s Renewed Social Protection Architecture," aligns with translating policy structures into measurable improvements in family welfare and social protection.
Reflecting on gender equity in governance, Adeleye highlighted the emergence of two women—herself and her predecessor, Funmilayo Efuwape—as APC candidates for Federal Constituency seats ahead of the general elections. She commended the governor and party leadership for creating opportunities for women to hold key public roles, calling on women across the nation to support one another and step forward into leadership positions.
Describing the award as validation for the development vision of the state, Adeleye said, “The real measure of development lies in our ability to strengthen families, expand opportunities, protect the vulnerable and improve lives. If one woman rises, it is progress; when many women rise together, it is transformation,”.
