The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has turned the housing sector into a major catalyst for urban transformation, economic growth, and wealth creation across the state through strategic property developments and urban regeneration projects.
The initiative, anchored on projects such as the multi-phase Prince Court Estate in Kobape along the Siun to Sagamu Expressway, has expanded into a thriving residential community equipped with independent power supply, a commercial shopping mall, a health centre, banking facilities, and a dedicated security post.
The housing model has been replicated across the three senatorial districts of the state, extending to locations including Kemta at Idi-Aba in Abeokuta, Sagamu, Itanrin in Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro, and the Gateway Aviation Village in Iperu.
The policy architecture of the state government approaches housing as both a social service and an economic driver, spanning affordable housing schemes for low-income earners, premium developments for middle and high-income earners, public-private partnerships, and the urban regeneration of underutilised government assets.
Under the scheme, the initial phase of the Kemta Idi-Aba project comprising 150 two and three-bedroom units sold out quickly, reflecting high demand for affordable housing.
At Kobape, initial units of the Prince Court Estate were sold to civil servants and members of the public for prices ranging between N4,950,000 and N5,000,000, with official figures showing that the properties have appreciated significantly on the open market to create substantial wealth for early beneficiaries.
In addition to new developments, the administration initiated urban regeneration programmes at Ibara in Abeokuta and Igbeba in Ijebu-Ode, replacing over 200 dilapidated civil servant quarters constructed over 50 years ago across 25 hectares of government land with more than 250 modern smart buildings.
Expanding on the initiative, the Ogun State Executive Council recently approved a fresh package of projects, including 450 units of two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows with basic infrastructure, 28 official quarters for members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, 28 sellable duplexes at Ibara Government Reservation Area Scheme II, and the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
According to details provided by the Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, the state government planned to deliver no fewer than 3,000 additional housing units in 2026, supported by an allocation of over N100,000,000,000 to the housing sector.
The current project expansion forms part of a broader target set by the administration to deliver 10,000 housing units by 2027, building on more than 4,000 affordable housing units delivered between 2019 and 2023, which has since risen above 5,000 completed units across the state.
The strategic expansion of housing infrastructure is designed to match the rapid population and industrial growth of Ogun State resulting from its proximity to Lagos, ensuring that residential development supports expanding industrial clusters, enhances workforce productivity, and generates employment across the construction value chain.
