Abiodun welcomes OGD, Kashamu political allies into Ogun APC

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has received members of the Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) political family and the Buruji Kashamu political group into the mainstream of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the movement as a major boost for party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Abiodun formally welcomed the groups during a stakeholders meeting at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, where he urged political actors sharing common interests to work together under a unified structure rather than dividing their efforts across competing political parties.

Addressing the gathering, the governor expressed concern over the recent foundation relaunch organized by former Governor and sitting Ogun East Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, served as the special guest of honour. Abiodun noted that the occurrence suggested the former governor had chosen to align outside the mainstream structure of the ruling party.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that political power and influence are privileges bestowed by God that must be exercised with humility and responsibility.

Abiodun stated, “You know OGD is my leader because he was governor before me. I joined Ogun State politics way before him. Without a doubt, I was a senator-elect in the state in 1996/1997.”

He added, “You don’t begin to act as if you are God. You don’t begin to play as if you are an emperor. God gives us power and looks at how we use it. If you utilise it very well, God will leave it with you for a long time to continue to wield it. If you abuse it, God will take it away from you and give it to somebody else,”.

Revisiting the 2023 election cycle, Abiodun revealed that he supported Daniel’s emergence as the APC senatorial candidate despite receiving warnings from political associates regarding potential future disagreements.

The governor said, “I just decided that we should honour him because one day, I will also become a former governor.”

He added, “Now the gloves are off. He is the same person that we heard in an audio saying he had taken someone to court,”.

Assuring the incoming members of equal opportunity, inclusiveness, and fairness within the party, Governor Abiodun also disclosed that major announcements concerning Ogun State achieving oil-producing status and the development of its proposed deep-sea port would be made before the end of the year.

Speaking on behalf of the joining groups, the Senior Consultant to the Governor on Political Matters, Aremo Tunde Adesanya—who previously coordinated OGD’s political structure in Odogbolu Local Government—reaffirmed the group's total commitment to the leadership of Governor Abiodun and the mainstream APC.

Similarly, party stakeholder Oladipupo Owoduni dismissed rumors of loyalists supporting opposition candidates, revealing that the group had launched a grassroots mobilization drive tagged "Operation 5 Direct". He explained that the initiative aims to secure electoral victories in 2027 for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abiodun for his senatorial bid, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola for the governorship, alongside APC legislative candidates across Ogun East.
