The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the conspiracy, abduction, and assault of the chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area, Rufus Olorunfemi, and another individual named Funso Ajayi. Following the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure all culprits face the full wrath of the law.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on June 3, 2026, at about 9:00 pm. Armed men dressed in camouflage uniforms and riding in three Hilux vehicles reportedly accosted the LCDA chairman and Ajayi along Anoye Street in Ikere Ekiti, forcing them into the vehicles before whisking them away.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the victims were taken to the compound of a popular politician in the area, where they were severely assaulted before being set free by their captors. Abutu confirmed that while three suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, security operatives are actively tracking down the remaining accomplices who are still at large. The apprehended suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
Warning the public against lawlessness, the PPRO cautioned citizens, especially political party loyalists, to refrain from inciting violence or taking the law into their own hands. He reaffirmed the commitment of the command to ensuring safety and justice for all, upholding the rule of law, and maintaining strict professionalism while respecting the fundamental rights of all citizens.
