The Ogun State Government has dismissed reports alleging an impending invasion of the state by Boko Haram insurgents, killer herdsmen, and other criminal groups, describing the claims as false and completely unfounded. In a statement released on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government maintained that available intelligence from security agencies shows that the state remains safe and secure, while urging residents not to yield to fear or misinformation being circulated across social media.
Akinmade explained that security formations across the state have remained highly vigilant and have implemented appropriate measures to foil any attempt by criminal elements to disrupt public peace and order. According to the special adviser, “The Ogun State Government has noted with dismay the rumours being circulated on social media and across different platforms indicating that the state is under imminent threat of invasion by killer herders, Boko Haram terrorists fleeing military operations in the North-East, and other criminal groups.”
The state government further emphasized that there is no truth regarding any impending external aggression on the state. The statement noted, “The true situation is that there is no imminent threat of invasion by any terrorist group. Security agencies and operatives across the state are on high alert, and adequate measures have already been put in place to checkmate any individual or group seeking to foment trouble or undermine public order.”
The government observed that some individuals were intentionally capitalizing on the security infractions in other regions of the country to cause unnecessary apprehension among the citizens of the state. Akinmade noted, “It is clear that some individuals are attempting to exploit security challenges being experienced in other parts of the country to create a climate of fear in Ogun State. This is highly irresponsible and capable of causing unnecessary anxiety among residents,”
He also revealed that law enforcement agents have already apprehended some persons connected to the circulation of the panic-inducing write-ups. The special adviser stated, “Security agencies have identified and apprehended some of the individuals responsible for spreading these false narratives. They are currently facing prosecution, and this should serve as a clear warning to anyone seeking to deliberately spread misinformation, create panic, or disrupt public peace,”
The statement further revealed that the state government is working in partnership with security agencies, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to enhance intelligence gathering and scale up quick response frameworks across all local communities. According to Akinmade, the state is modifying its internal security architecture to foster deep collaboration between conventional security personnel and local traditional security operators at the grassroots level. He emphasized that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun continues to place priority on protecting lives and property through constant investments in security infrastructure, logistics support, and technology-driven surveillance methods. While advising the public to depend solely on official state channels and recognized security bodies for authentic updates, the government cautioned against sharing unverified stories that can stir up confusion and panic among the people.
