Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has threatened to expose the identities of politicians sponsoring the abduction of schoolchildren in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The prominent activist issued the threat while hosting the newly elected executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, led by Akinteye Babatunde, at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan on Wednesday.
In a trending video clip recorded by Wisdom TV, Igboho asserted that he had personally volunteered to track down and dislodge the bandits but his offer was rejected by the Oyo State Government. He also clarified that he never demanded financial compensation from the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to rescue the abductees. Speaking on the involvement of political figures, Igboho stated, “If I am permitted to burst into the hideouts, they will flee. They are neither gnomes nor mannequins; they are humans, so that they could be dislodged. I know the politicians behind them, and if they do not stop perpetrating their evil acts, I will mention them all. I know them. The politicians behind them are the ones giving them ammunition and money. The same thing they did to Jonathan is what they are doing to Tinubu. They want to make the country ungovernable for him. They even have fake news propaganda to scare the masses and divert supporters away from the President. Suppose the recent abduction is not a game. In Oyo, they made away with children. I volunteered to go, but the state government said ‘No.’”
The activist revealed that the state government later cited safety concerns regarding his intervention. Igboho added, “Later, they informed me that the kidnappers said if I try to force myself to come rescue the children, they will kill them all. If they are serious about rescuing the victims, they should tell my boys and me to chase them out of the forests in our regions and see if those people will remain there even with their bombs and sophisticated weapons,”
The Oyo-based activist explained that despite obtaining necessary clearance from the Federal Government for his newly formed security outfit, the Oyo State Government barred his group from executing operations. Explaining his frustration, he stated, “After I arranged ‘Iru Ekun’ security network, the Federal Government permitted me, but the state government said no security must take a step behind them. Do we have to wait for him to flood the forests to rescue these children? I’m just concerned about these abductees; nobody can kidnap me, not even my family, because they are spread across Canada and Germany. Why should I fret? Despite how bad Buhari’s administration is, he completed his tenure. Why are they trying to stop a Yoruba man - Tinubu - from completing his? It was Tinubu who freed me when I was in exile. Why should I tackle him? And why are they trying to ruin his government?”
No fewer than 45 pupils were abducted on May 15, 2026, during a coordinated Friday assault on three academic institutions within the Oriire Local Government Area. The affected institutions include the Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School in Esiele, and the L.A. Primary School. Reports indicate that tension has continued to escalate across the state following the mass abduction. Security forces have reportedly cordoned off potential escape routes used by the gunmen, who retreated into a vast forest reserve bordering the Oriire communities and the Old Oyo National Park axis.
A teacher at the Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Elizabeth Olagoke, disclosed that the armed abductors spoke a mix of Hausa, Yoruba, and Pidgin English during the operation.
Days after the raid, one of the captured educators, Michael Oyedokun, was brutally murdered by the bandits. A video clip circulating on Telegram on Monday showed that the teacher was bound and forced to speak before being beheaded by his captors. The gruesome development prompted Igboho to seek official authorization for his local security outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network, to flush out criminal syndicates from forests across the South-West region. The activist also expressed his willingness to comply with the recent Executive Order enacted by the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to regulate the operations of private security organizations within the state.
