Governor Dapo Abiodun has revealed plans by the Ogun State Government to roll out the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, an initiative designed to provide monthly cash interventions to between 50,000 and 100,000 residents across the state over the next year. The governor disclosed this on Friday during the official opening of the first session of the 15th Synod of the Remo Anglican Diocese, which held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church in Ikenne under the theme, “The Empty Tomb: An Authentic Proof of the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
During the event, Abiodun also announced that his administration would prioritise the reconstruction of the Sagamu to Ode Lemo Road. He emphasised that collaboration between the government and religious institutions remains vital for building a peaceful, just, and progressive society. The governor commended the Church for its unwavering commitment to spiritual renewal, community development, and godly nation building, particularly at a time when the country requires strong moral and faith based direction. He noted that the dedication of the Church to propagating the gospel, promoting peace, and uplifting humanity continues to inspire hope nationwide.
Abiodun described the Synod as a sacred platform for prayers, doctrinal guidance, collective reflection, and decision making that strengthens the body of Christ while contributing significantly to the moral and social advancement of the broader society. He further praised the Church for its impact on education, healthcare, youth development, family values, and community welfare, recognising it as a crucial partner in shaping responsible citizens and fostering ethical leadership. The governor stated, "Throughout history, the Church has stood as a moral voice in society, defending justice, caring for the vulnerable, and encouraging leaders to govern with fairness and integrity."
Speaking on the upcoming elections, the governor urged the Church to continue advocating for truth, peace, and responsible citizenship. He appealed to the clergy to motivate their congregations to actively participate in the democratic process by registering to vote and exercising their constitutional rights. He added, "Our administration remains committed to creating renewed opportunities for the economy, institutions, and the people of Ogun State."
Reflecting on the political climate in the state, Abiodun observed that his administration had drastically reduced political tension compared to the situation seven years ago, which he said was previously characterised by violence and thuggery. He highlighted the ongoing primary elections of the All Progressives Congress as being peaceful, transparent, and credible. The governor remarked, "When I reflect on what happened during my own primaries seven years ago and compare it with what is happening today, it is like night and day, and it gives me every reason to thank God. Back then, it was all about rancour, violence, thuggery, and political tension. After I won the primaries, we had to wait cautiously for my declaration because we feared attacks or shootings. Today, there is peace across Ogun State."
In his sermon, the Bishop of the Remo Diocese and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Olusina Fape, lauded the governor for translating his development agenda into impactful projects across the three senatorial districts of the state. The cleric described the recently inaugurated Gateway International Airport as a transformative infrastructure capable of easing travel and stimulating commerce and trade. Fape also commended the statewide street lighting project, identifying the provision of stable electricity to residents and businesses as a major catalyst for investment and economic growth.
