Senator Solomon Adeola, the lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has secured the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket for Ogun State. He achieved a landslide victory by garnering 304,055 votes, while his sole challenger, Abayomi Hunye, scored zero. Wale Ohu, the Chairman of the APC primary election committee for the state, formally declared the outcome at the party's secretariat in Abeokuta on Thursday. Ohu noted that a total of 305,287 voters were accredited from 343,292 registered members across all 20 local government areas.
Upon his declaration as the winner, Adeola promised to consolidate the strides made by Governor Dapo Abiodun and uphold unity within the party ahead of the 2027 polls. He praised the state governor for ensuring a smooth and hitch-free primary, noting that such orderliness was unprecedented. Highlighting that the state was experiencing its first peaceful succession process in 15 years, Adeola stated, "I never imagined the exercise would be this peaceful. I thought it was the usual primaries where people struggle and fight. God on our side."
He went on to thank President Bola Tinubu for his guidance and mentorship spanning 24 years, describing the President as a leader, father, and role model. The senator also promised the people of Ogun State that he would drive further progress and sustain the developmental momentum if he assumes office.
Reacting to the results, Governor Abiodun stated that Adeola's win reflected the immense trust that party members across the state had placed in him. He commended the primary process as a historic achievement for the state in its 50 years of existence. The governor pointed out that it was the first instance where a sitting governor openly presented a successor before an election in a completely transparent and peaceful process.
