Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has secured the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Ogun East Senatorial District following a decisive primary election victory.
Supporters attribute the success of his administration to his extensive background in the private sector, which heavily influenced his focus on industrialization and economic expansion. Over the past seven years, his administration executed a comprehensive development agenda that resulted in the construction and rehabilitation of over 1,600 kilometres of road networks. These infrastructure upgrades have significantly improved market access and connectivity between rural communities and commercial hubs. A major highlight of his tenure remains the Gateway International Airport, which has positioned the state as a critical logistics and aviation hub for manufacturers.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the administration recorded significant economic growth, with the internally generated revenue of the state jumping from N52 billion in 2020 to nearly N192 billion in 2024. The government also attracted major foreign direct investments, securing large scale commitments for free trade zones and agro processing hubs. In addition to economic reforms, Abiodun implemented various social initiatives, including vocational training for women, widespread healthcare centre renovations, and educational upgrades that eliminated school levies while introducing digital learning platforms.
The recent primary victory reflects a strong consensus among local party leaders and stakeholders who openly supported his ambition. Proponents argue that his transition to the Senate will provide the district with a powerful voice at the federal level, leveraging his executive experience and established political relationships.
