The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has commenced a grassroots sensitisation programme on the recently validated National Migration Policy 2025, joining other commands across the country in the nationwide exercise.
The sensitisation programme was held on Wednesday at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta in line with directives from the Service Headquarters aimed at ensuring that officers are well informed on evolving migration dynamics.
The session began with a keynote address from the Comptroller General of Immigration, followed by opening remarks delivered on behalf of the Ogun State Comptroller, highlighting the importance of strengthening institutional capacity to address emerging security challenges.
In her keynote address, the Comptroller General described the National Migration Policy 2025 as a “strategic roadmap” for Nigeria, noting that it is designed to enhance migration governance, national security, and service delivery across the country.
She explained that ongoing reforms and the integration of modern technological innovations remain central to aligning Nigeria’s migration management system with global best practices.
The Ogun State Comptroller, Olufunke Yetunde Odusote, who was represented by Deputy Comptroller Kayode Adedigba, urged officers to make the most of the sensitisation exercise.
She encouraged participants to internalise the technical knowledge shared, stressing that effective implementation of the policy would enhance operational efficiency within the state.
“This is not just a lecture; it is a call to duty. Every officer must understand their role in the implementation of this policy to ensure our borders and migration processes remain robust,” she stated through her representative.
During the technical session, Assistant Comptroller Innocent Ologwu provided a detailed presentation on the policy document.
He traced the evolution of the National Migration Policy from its introduction in 2015 to the revised 2025 version, noting that the new document features a more integrated implementation framework and improved stakeholder engagement.
According to him, the updated policy addresses gaps identified in the previous version and promotes a more coordinated approach to migration management across Nigeria.
The programme also featured an interactive session during which officers raised questions and sought clarification on various “grey areas” within the policy document.
Clarifications were provided by the facilitator and command leadership to ensure a unified understanding of the policy provisions.
The sensitisation exercise concluded with a renewed commitment by officers to uphold the principles of the National Migration Policy 2025 in their daily operations, followed by a group photograph to mark the event.
