Lagos Security Trust Fund Tasks Youths On Ethics and Integrity

The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayo Ogunsan, has called on young people and community advocates across the state to embrace high moral standards and reject social vices, warning that the success of security interventions depends heavily on the discipline of those at the grassroots. Speaking at a strategic meeting with members of the campaign against crimes, cultism, and other vices in Lagos, Ogunsan stressed that individuals charged with promoting security must themselves remain above suspicion to maintain the credibility of the initiative.

The security chief noted that the campaign is designed as a preventive measure to tackle the rising concerns over youth involvement in criminal activities and cultism within various communities. He cautioned the committee members against any conduct that could bring the organisation into disrepute, stating that the government would not hesitate to publicly disclaim anyone found engaging in fraudulent activities or maintaining close ties with known cultists. He argued that personal integrity is a prerequisite for anyone seeking to influence the behaviour of others in the quest for a safer society.

The initiative adopts a community driven approach aimed at engaging the youth population constructively to steer them away from the path of crime. Stakeholders at the meeting observed that as the commercial nerve centre of the country, the economic productivity of Lagos is inextricably linked to its security situation. They maintained that a secure environment is essential for businesses to thrive and for residents to pursue their careers without fear, making it imperative for the youth to be positioned as stakeholders and ambassadors of peace.

Responding to the charge, the State Coordinator of the committee, Moses Oladimeji, reaffirmed the group's commitment to grassroots engagement and the reorientation of young people. He explained that the project is focused on encouraging youths to resist the temptation of vices so that all residents can enjoy a peaceful and productive environment. He noted that the committee understands the deep worries that crime and cultism cause in every community and is prepared to work tirelessly to promote lawful conduct among the younger generation.

The meeting, which was attended by senior officials of the trust fund, also highlighted the importance of reporting suspicious activities and promoting accountability at all levels of community leadership. Security experts present at the gathering suggested that long term success in crime prevention would require sustained investment in education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship. By reinforcing the values of responsibility and productivity, the state government aims to build a resilient security framework that protects lives and property while fostering sustainable development across the metropolis.
