The Kaduna State Government has announced plans for Kaduna State University to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of London to strengthen distance and online education.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Education, Abubakar Sani Sambo, who said the move is part of efforts to transform the state’s education system into a technology driven and globally competitive sector.
According to him, Kaduna State recently sent a high level delegation of academics to the 2026 edition of the Research in Distance and E Learning Conference held at the University of London.
He explained that the delegation, which included five professors, engaged with global experts in digital, blended, and distance education during the conference.
Sambo added that the team also held discussions with the Centre for Online and Distance Education, a leading global hub, where Kaduna State University showcased its research work.
He noted that the engagement opened opportunities for institutional collaboration between Kaduna State University and the University of London, particularly in building capacity for digital and distance learning.
The Commissioner revealed that the state government is preparing to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening online and distance education programmes.
He disclosed that a pilot Central Learning Management System will be introduced at Kaduna State University as a model for expansion, while selected academic staff will undergo training in digital pedagogy and course delivery.
According to him, both institutions will also undertake joint research and academic exchange programmes, with technical support for digital learning infrastructure expected from the Centre for Online and Distance Education.
Sambo stated that the conference validated ongoing reforms in Kaduna State’s education sector, particularly efforts to expand hybrid learning and computer based assessment systems.
He further noted that the Research in Distance and E Learning Conference commended initiatives aimed at strengthening the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority through digital tools and promoting equitable access to education through technology driven solutions.
The Commissioner emphasised that the government is also focusing on reaching out of school children through flexible and distance learning models, in line with global best practices.
The Kaduna State delegation to the conference included the Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, as well as other senior academics and government officials who participated in the engagements aimed at improving the state’s education system.
