The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Sunday oversaw the defection of members from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.
The development comes as preparations intensify for an official rally expected to formally receive Abba Kabir Yusuf into the party fold.
At the event, party supporters and the new entrants expressed their backing for a second term for Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well as Governor Yusuf, citing continuity and stability as key reasons for their endorsement.
In his remarks, Prof. Yilwatda welcomed the defectors and described their decision as a reflection of growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and direction. He encouraged members to remain united and committed to strengthening the party’s presence at the grassroots level.
A notable figure from the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency also used the occasion to call on Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, to rejoin frontline politics and seek election to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.
The gathering attracted several high-profile party leaders, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas; Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, Ismail Ahmed; and Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Bashir Lado Mohammed, among other stakeholders.
Observers say the wave of defections could reshape political alignments in Kano State as parties begin early positioning ahead of future electoral contests.
