The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed viral social media reports claiming it confirmed incidents of illegal kidney harvesting and sales involving youths in the Nyanya area of Abuja.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, clarified that the command had not received any formal report or intelligence concerning such illicit transactions.
The clarification followed online reports alleging that young persons residing around Nyanya had sold their kidneys for financial gains to an agent operating in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
Refuting the claims, Adeh stated, “The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature.”
She added, “No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” while cautioning members of the public against disseminating unverified claims capable of inciting fear, panic, and unnecessary tension among residents.
The police spokesperson enjoined anyone with credible information regarding human organ trafficking or other security concerns within the territory to report immediately to the nearest police station or contact the command via 07038979348 or 08028940883.
