Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have arrested no fewer than six suspected oil bunkerers in the Orile General Area of Lagos State.
The suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-driven operation led by the Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
According to a statement shared on X by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Musa Yahaya, the raid also resulted in the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, as well as assorted pipes and drums allegedly utilised for illegal bunkering operations.
The Army stated, “Acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided the site and arrested six suspected oil bunkerers. The operation also led to the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums allegedly used for illegal bunkering activities.”
The Army confirmed that the suspects and the recovered equipment have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation and legal action.
Commending the personnel for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, tasked the troops to maintain the tempo against economic sabotage and other illegalities.
He urged the troops “to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the 81 Division Area of responsibility.”
The operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by the military to combat illegal oil bunkering, safeguard critical national infrastructure, and bolster security within its area of responsibility.
