Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted high potency illegal drugs hidden inside water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands. The discovery was made at a courier firm on May 26, 2026, where officials recovered three kilograms of ketamine alongside 199 grams of MDMA concealed within the appliances. Confirming the development in a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the agency, Femi Babafemi, stated, “Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have uncovered consignments of high potency illicit drugs concealed in water purifier machines shipped to Lagos from Netherlands.”
In a related development in Kaduna State, anti-narcotics officers apprehended a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, along with another suspect identified as Salomi Ezekiel. The arrests occurred on May 24 following the recovery of 100 jumbo bags containing 1,246 kilograms of skunk from their residence located in the Gonin Gora area. On the same date, operatives stationed along the highway linking Abuja and Kaduna at Jere intercepted a 30-year-old man, Sunusi Musa, who was found in possession of 380 rounds of 7.62mm military grade ammunition. The suspect, who was reportedly travelling to Katsina State, has been transferred along with the recovered items to the relevant security agency for further investigation.
Detailing further operational successes across the country, the agency noted, “In Niger State, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse at Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, on May 27, where 457 kilograms of skunk were recovered. A suspect, Godwin Zakka, was later arrested at his residence in Minna in connection with the seizure. In Enugu State, operatives on patrol along the Onitsha to Enugu expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle marked JAY-158-YF on May 28, recovering 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam. A suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested,”
Furthermore, the agency highlighted its ongoing preventive measures through the War Against Drug Abuse sensitization campaign. These educational lectures were organized in communities and schools across several states, including Anambra, Lagos, Taraba, and Cross River. The body explained, “With the same zeal, Commands and formations of the Agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation activities in schools, worship centres, work places and communities, among others.”
Commending the successful operations, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa retired, applauded the operatives for balancing their enforcement duties with preventive initiatives. He further urged the officers to maintain the aggressive nationwide crackdown on all illicit drug trafficking networks.
