The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is currently underway at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. The ceremony, which began at 7 p.m. on Saturday, is celebrating outstanding achievement in African film, television and digital storytelling. The awards are being broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, and streamed via DStv Stream and GOtv Stream.
Valerie Okeke won the award for Best Costume Design for the production Colours of Fire. In the Best Makeup category, Hakeem Onilogbo emerged as the winner for his work on Warlord. The prize for Best Sound/Sound Design was awarded to Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra for My Father’s Shadow. For Best Writing in a TV Series, the team of Annette Shadeya, Natasha Likimani, Mkamzee Mwatela, Arnold Mwanjila, and Makgano Mamabolo took home the trophy for MTV Shuga Mashariki.
Ajamolaya Bunmi secured the award for Best Art Direction for Colours of Fire. Wale Davies won Best Writing in a Movie for My Father’s Shadow, while Kabelo Thathe won Best Cinematography for To Kill A Monkey. The Best Digital Content Creator category saw Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom emerge as winners for Leave To Live. Lateef Adedimeji won the award for Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) for Lisabi (A Legend is Born).
The Best Editing award was presented to Daniel Anyiam for To Kill a Monkey. Shedrack Salami won the Best Documentary category for Beyond Olympic Glory. In the Best Short Film category, Orire Nwani and Josh Olaoluwa won for Hussainin. Finally, Duval Timothy and CJ Mirra were named winners for Best Score/Music for their work on My Father’s Shadow. The ceremony continues to celebrate excellence across various categories in the African film industry.
