The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted. The anti-graft agency announced the development on Saturday following allegations involving criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and the diversion of public funds.
According to a notice published on the official website of the commission, the 52-year-old former minister from Zamfara State has her last known address at EN 008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja. In a statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity for the commission, Dele Oyewale, members of the public were urged to provide information regarding her whereabouts to the authorities.
The official wanted notice stated: “The public is hereby notified that Sadiya Umar Farouq, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an alleged case of Criminal Conspiracy, Abuse of Office, Diversion of Public Funds.” The agency directed individuals with useful information to reach out to any of its offices across the country, including those in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, and Abuja.
The commission also provided a telephone hotline and an email address for public assistance, while advising contact with the nearest police station. Sadiya Umar Farouq served as a minister from 2019 to 2023 under the administration of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari. Following the publication of the wanted notice, reports indicated that the former minister arrived at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja.
