Former Defence Spokesman And Wife Abducted In Katsina

Suspected armed bandits have abducted a former Director of Defence Information, retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, alongside his wife in Katsina State. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday along the Katsina to Matazu road while the retired senior military officer was travelling with his wife.

Their vehicle was intercepted by armed men in the Matazu Local Government Area, and the couple was subsequently whisked away to an unknown destination. According to sources, the driver who was conveying the victims managed to escape the attack but sustained a bullet injury in the process.

During his active service as the military spokesperson, Abubakar played a crucial role in managing defence communication for the Nigerian Armed Forces. This recent abduction has heightened existing concerns over the worsening state of insecurity in the North West region, particularly in Katsina State, where incidents of kidnappings and armed assaults on residents and travellers have continued to escalate.

The attack further underscores the persistent security challenges facing the country, notwithstanding the continuous efforts of the military to combat armed criminal syndicates. Meanwhile, efforts to obtain an official reaction from military authorities regarding the unfortunate development were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
