The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned power outage affecting several communities in Oyo State on Thursday, April 9, 2026, as its technical crew moves to carry out maintenance work on a 40 Megavolt Ampere power transformer located in the Jericho area of Ibadan.
The company's spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, who disclosed this in a statement, explained that the scheduled maintenance exercise would temporarily halt the ability of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to channel electricity supply to a number of communities within its network during the period of the outage.
Mbah listed the communities that would bear the brunt of the power interruption to include UCH, Yemetu, Oremeji, Railway Quarters, Mokola Roundabout, Bashorun, Cocoa House, Secretariat, Onireke, Fan Milk and Bank Road, all densely populated and commercially active parts of Ibadan that depend heavily on a stable power supply for daily activities and business operations.
The TCN spokesperson was at pains to clarify that the outage was not a result of any fault or system failure, but rather a deliberate and routine maintenance exercise designed to guarantee that the transformer continues to function at its optimal capacity. She stressed that such routine checks are a necessary part of ensuring the long-term reliability and performance of the country's electricity transmission infrastructure.
While assuring residents that every effort would be made to restore supply as swiftly as possible, Mbah tendered an apology on behalf of the company to electricity consumers in the affected areas, acknowledging the disruption the outage would inevitably cause to homes, businesses and institutions across the communities concerned. TCN, she indicated, remained committed to keeping such interruptions to a minimum even as it worked to maintain the integrity of its transmission network.
