The Ogun State Executive Council has approved the renaming of the Sagamu–Iperu–Sapade Expressway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while also giving the green light to a series of administrative and infrastructure decisions aimed at accelerating development across the state.
The renaming of the expressway, which will now be known as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway, followed an announcement first made during the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport and several other landmark projects in the state last Saturday. The decision was formalised at the Council's sitting, cementing the honour extended to the President in recognition of his significance to the region.
Beyond the renaming, the Council gave approval for the procurement of 50 electricity transformers under the Light Up Ogun Project, a state-driven initiative designed to broaden access to power supply across communities in Ogun. The move signals the administration's continued push to address the persistent electricity challenges that have long hampered residents and businesses within the state.
In another symbolic decision, the former Aviation Village in Iperu was renamed in honour of the late Oba Adeleke Idowu Basibo, a gesture the government described as recognition of his enduring contributions to the area during his lifetime.
To bolster the operational capacity of public officials, the Council also sanctioned the purchase of 20 Suzuki Grand Vitara and 12 Toyota Fortuner vehicles, acquisitions the government says are necessary to strengthen administrative efficiency across its various arms.
On traditional leadership, the Council approved the declaration of the Olu of Odeda stool in Odeda Local Government Area, a development that is expected to bring clarity and stability to the traditional governance structure of the area. The Council equally ratified the appointments of Prince Adeyemi Ibikunle Opeaye as the Oludotun of Idotun in Ikenne Local Government Area, Chief Yaya Oriyomi as the Olu of Mowe, and Bashorun Peter Oluwole Ogunbayo as the Odemo of Ishara, further consolidating the state's traditional institutions.
Speaking on the decisions, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the approvals collectively reflected the administration's determination to drive meaningful progress. "These decisions reflect the government's commitment to improving critical infrastructure, enhancing power supply, and ensuring effective local administration across Ogun State," he said.
