Ogun State-owned airline, Gateway Air, is set to commence scheduled commercial flight operations from Monday, April 13, 2026, covering five routes that will connect the Gateway International Airport in Iperu to major cities across the country, in a move the state government described as a significant step toward improving regional air connectivity and driving economic growth.
The announcement was made at the weekend in a statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kayode Akinmade, who outlined the routes and operational schedule that the airline would follow from its launch date.
According to the statement, Gateway Air's initial route network will span five corridors, including Iperu to Abuja, Abuja to Port Harcourt, Abuja to Calabar, Abuja to Jos and Iperu to Kano. The flights will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, offering passengers a regular schedule across the week and providing what the state government described as flexible and convenient travel options for commuters and business travellers alike.
Economy fares for the one-way flights were announced to start from N100,000, positioning the airline as a new option in the Nigerian domestic aviation market at a time when access to affordable and reliable air travel remains a significant challenge for many Nigerians.
Akinmade, who spoke on behalf of the Ogun State government, said the launch of Gateway Air's scheduled operations represented a meaningful milestone in the state's broader ambition to transform the Gateway International Airport in Iperu into a functional and commercially active aviation hub. He said the initiative was expected to generate tangible economic benefits for Ogun State and the surrounding region by improving connections between key commercial and administrative centres across the country.
He urged prospective passengers to make their bookings early and to follow the airline's official communication channels for updates on flight schedules and other relevant information. He added that Gateway Air remained committed to delivering air travel services that were safe, efficient and responsive to the needs of its customers.
