APC Convention sets new benchmark in organisation, security – Abiodun

The 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been widely hailed as a defining moment in political event management, with Dapo Abiodun describing it as a model of organisation, innovation, and top-tier security.

Speaking on the sidelines of the high-profile gathering at Eagle Square, the Ogun State Governor, who also chaired the Venue Subcommittee, attributed the convention’s seamless execution to deliberate planning and a forward-thinking strategy that addressed past shortcomings.

According to Abiodun, the committee began its assignment with a comprehensive review of previous APC conventions, identifying recurring issues—particularly in crowd control and security coordination. This critical evaluation, he explained, laid the foundation for a complete overhaul of the event’s structure.

“Our objective was clear: to eliminate past challenges and deliver a world-class convention that reflects the strength and discipline of our great party,” he said.

A major highlight of the planning process was an on-site assessment of the venue shortly after the committee’s inauguration. This exercise led to a strategic redesign of the arena, including the use of crowd-flow simulations to test the movement of approximately 12,000 participants. The result was a fluid system that ensured smooth entry and exit throughout the event.

To further enhance efficiency, designated entry points were created for various categories of attendees, while emergency exit routes were carefully mapped out to guarantee safety. In addition, surveillance cameras were installed at key locations within and around the venue, reinforcing security and real-time monitoring.

The convention recorded an impressive turnout of about 11,000 participants, comprising 8,400 delegates, 1,800 committee members, and 200 VIPs. Abiodun described the event as a resounding success and commended Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him to oversee such a critical assignment. He noted that the outcome aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, underscoring a commitment to excellence and national progress.

In her remarks, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the convention as unprecedented, citing the full participation of delegates from all 36 states of the federation. She praised the planning team for delivering an event worthy of national acclaim.

Similarly, the Senator representing Ogun Central, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, lauded the convention as a hallmark achievement. He credited its success to strong leadership, meticulous coordination, and the dedication of the organising committee.

As the curtains fall on the APC’s 2026 convention, the event stands not only as a political milestone but also as a benchmark for future large-scale gatherings in Nigeria—where planning, innovation, and security converge to deliver excellence.
