A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tunde Lemo, has announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
Lemo made his position known on Wednesday while participating in ward congress activities at Ward 12, Ita-Agemo, Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta. Though he stopped short of making a formal campaign declaration, he acknowledged that he is positioning himself ahead of the 2027 race.
The former apex bank official said his ambition is driven by a desire to accelerate grassroots development across the state. He noted that Ogun possesses vast agricultural potential that can be better harnessed through effective leadership and strategic investment.
Speaking at the event, Lemo praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as transformative. He also commended the peaceful conduct of the ward congresses, saying the exercise reflects unity and cohesion within the party.
Lemo further lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as steady developmental progress in the state, particularly highlighting the agro-cargo airport project, which has reportedly secured approval to begin commercial flight operations.
According to him, the focus should remain on governance and raising standards of leadership for the benefit of Ogun residents. While affirming that he has his sights set on 2027, Lemo emphasized that the ultimate outcome rests with God.
