The National Youth Service Corps has issued a strong warning to corps members against posting negative content on social media that could damage the image of the Scheme or portray Nigeria in a bad light.
Corps members were instead encouraged to use their social media platforms to project positive values and reflect the ideals of the NYSC as well as the nation.
The warning was issued by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, on Friday during his address to the 2025 Batch C corps members at the NYSC Delta State Orientation Camp in Issele Uku.
A statement shared through the official NYSC account on X stated that any corps member found posting negative or harmful content on social media would face appropriate sanctions.
Brigadier General Nafiu emphasised that corps members are ambassadors of the Scheme and the country and should conduct themselves responsibly both online and offline throughout their service year.
In addition to the caution on social media use, the NYSC Director General advised corps members to avoid unauthorised travel and to strictly adhere to all camp rules and regulations.
He also urged them to respect the cultural values and traditions of their host communities and to represent the Scheme positively at their places of primary assignment.
According to him, corps members should obey instructions, complete biometric verification, participate fully in Community Development Service activities, and avoid any actions capable of misrepresenting the NYSC.
During the visit, the Delta State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr John Kwaghe, presented a camp situation report which revealed that a total of 2,101 corps members were deployed to the state.
The figure comprises 944 male and 1,157 female corps members posted to Delta State for the service year.
Kwaghe noted that activities at the orientation camp were progressing smoothly, adding that both officials and corps members have shown full participation and a commendable level of discipline.
The warning follows a similar message earlier delivered by Brigadier General Nafiu to the 2025 Batch C corps members in Rivers State, where he urged them to uphold the core values of the NYSC including patriotism, integrity, efficiency, transparency, and commitment during and beyond their service year.
