Celebrates son of Ikija and Ilawo heritage for service, scholarship, cultural advocacy

The ancient Ikija Kingdom in Oke Ona Egba, Ogun State, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of Agbaakin of Ikija on renowned academic and cultural advocate, Dr. Oluwaseun David Ogunsanya, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to community development, preservation of cultural heritage, and academic excellence.
The installation ceremony, which attracted traditional rulers, chiefs, community leaders, dignitaries and well-wishers from across Egba land and beyond, was marked by colourful cultural displays and royal rites symbolising honour, responsibility and service to ancestral heritage.
The Agbaakin title is regarded as one of the notable honourary chieftaincy titles within Egba traditional structure. Historically, the title is reserved for individuals who demonstrate courage, leadership capacity, loyalty to cultural values and commitment to community advancement.
Speaking during the installation, members of the Ikija Traditional Council described Dr. Ogunsanya as a worthy ambassador of Egba heritage whose achievements and dedication to cultural preservation have distinguished him among his peers.
They noted that his elevation reflects the Kingdom’s desire to honour individuals whose lives embody service, intellectual distinction and unwavering commitment to the progress of Egba communities both at home and in the diaspora.
Dr. Ogunsanya, who maintains deep ancestral ties to Ikija Kingdom through his maternal lineage, is also widely recognised as a prominent son of Ilawo Kingdom on his paternal side. He traces his paternal ancestry to the historic Balogun Laadi Ilawo dynasty, acknowledged as a foundational lineage and progenitor line of Ilawo Kingdom.
Community leaders described his installation as symbolic of unity between Ikija and Ilawo communities, emphasising the importance of strengthening historical bonds and promoting collective cultural identity across Egba land.
Beyond his traditional recognition, Dr. Ogunsanya is widely regarded as one of the most academically accomplished sons of Ilawo Kingdom. His academic and professional achievements have earned him recognition across educational, professional and cultural institutions.
