The Federal Government and the Borno State Government have intensified joint operations to secure the safe release of 44 schoolchildren abducted from Mussa community in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, made this known on Friday in Maiduguri during a meeting with parents of the abducted pupils, following an appeal by the families for urgent government intervention to rescue their children after 100 days in captivity.
Governor Zulum expressed deep sympathy to the affected families and conveyed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu towards ensuring the rescue of the schoolchildren. He stated that the President had directed security agencies to redouble efforts to secure their safe return to their families.
Zulum said, “On behalf of the government and people of Borno, I once again extend my sympathies over what happened at Mussa Central Primary School,”.
The governor noted that the abduction occurred on May 15, leading to the capture of about 44 primary school pupils, while reassuring the parents that the state government and the Nigerian Armed Forces were working in close synergy to achieve their rescue.
The meeting had in attendance the Senator representing Southern Borno Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, alongside other senior government functionaries.
