The Director-General of the Osun West Governorship Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress, Dotun Babayemi, has appealed to residents of Osun State to participate peacefully in the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Media Office in Osogbo, Babayemi urged voters to support the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to bring about transformational change in the state.
Babayemi specifically appealed to voters and key stakeholders to prevent bloodshed and the wanton destruction of lives and property during the election.
Babayemi said, “The task before all of us is to choose a new governor and this we can do peacefully through our votes without maiming, killings or destroying property. This becomes instructive because of the fact that regardless of our political differences, we remain members of the same family bonded by a common heritage called Osun State. The fact remains: elections will come and go, but our state will continue to remain.”
He noted that the financial and social cost of repairing damages could be overwhelming after the election, stressing that such losses can be avoided if residents and political actors refrain from treating the poll as a do-or-die affair.
Babayemi expressed confidence in the capacity of the APC flagbearer to deliver people-centred governance across the state.
He said, “Our candidate, Alhaji Oyebamiji, is ready and rearing to go. With the massive support of the people across the state, I am optimistic that he will triumph and our state will be good for it,”.
Meanwhile, a three-day staggered medical outreach, tagged Omooba Dotun Babayemi-AMBO Medical Outreach, organised as part of efforts to support the campaign of the party, concluded on Saturday in Gbongan, the headquarters of Ayedade Local Government Area.
The medical outreach took place in Orile-Owu, Tonkere, and Gbongan, providing free healthcare services to about 10,000 residents.
Beneficiaries received medical consultations, medications, health education, eye care services, as well as blood pressure and blood sugar checks.
Patients requiring further medical attention were referred for additional treatment, with all associated costs borne by Babayemi.
Speaking on the outreach, Babayemi expressed concern over the condition of primary healthcare centres in the state, maintaining that access to basic healthcare should not be treated as a luxury.
Babayemi said, “Healthcare should not become a luxury because our primary healthcare centres have been abandoned and left in deplorable conditions. The suffering of our people cannot continue while those entrusted with governance look away.”
He added, “This outreach demonstrates that the APC and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, remain connected to the grassroots and genuinely place the health and welfare of the people above politics”.
