The Federal Government has concluded arrangements for the final evacuation of stranded Nigerians from South Africa, with 315 returnees expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday. This development was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
The flight, operated by Air Peace, is scheduled to depart from Johannesburg at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, and is projected to touch down in Lagos at approximately 6:30 a.m. This upcoming trip represents the fifth and final evacuation flight arranged by the Federal Government to facilitate the return of citizens who expressed interest in leaving South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks and various security concerns.
The government previously executed four evacuation flights, successfully bringing back hundreds of Nigerians as part of its broader mandate to ensure the safety and well-being of its nationals abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs restated the dedication of the Federal Government to protecting its citizens regardless of their location, while also extending gratitude to the various stakeholders who contributed to the success of the multi-phase evacuation exercise.
