The founder and national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has cautioned supporters of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against attacking the party and its leadership, describing such actions as counterproductive to Obi’s presidential ambition.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS, Dickson dismissed claims of a crisis within the NDC and insisted that the party remains united despite disagreements arising from its recent primary elections. He argued that it is illogical for individuals who want the former Anambra State governor to win the presidency to systematically undermine the political platform on which he is contesting.
Dickson stated that you cannot genuinely support Peter Obi while simultaneously disparaging the party leader or the platform itself, calling such behavior nonsensical and questioning what supporters hope to gain by running down the vehicle their candidate is using. He excelled that the NDC remains the primary platform through which Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, hope to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, warning that attacking the institution only harms the prospects of their preferred candidates.
While acknowledging complaints from some party aspirants regarding the conduct of the recent primaries, the former Bayelsa State governor admitted that the process was not perfect. He attributed these operational challenges to the strict requirements of direct primaries under the Electoral Act combined with a tight electoral timetable.
Addressing allegations that activist Aisha Yesufu was mistreated during internal party processes, Dickson maintained that the NDC does not practice exclusion and confirmed she remains a welcomed member. However, he noted that social media popularity does not exempt individuals from playing by established party rules.
The senator also strongly rejected claims that the NDC sells nomination forms or awards tickets based on financial strength. He revealed that both Obi and Kwankwaso joined the party and received their nominations without any financial obligations, noting they did not pay a single naira. Dickson expressed confidence that growing public dissatisfaction with prevailing economic hardship and security challenges would keep the party unified and position the NDC as a strong alternative for political change ahead of the 2027 polls.
