Gunmen Attack NIPSS Kuru Killing Three Security Operatives

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that three security operatives lost their lives during an attack launched by gunmen on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, in the early hours of Monday. The confirmation was contained in an information update released in Jos on Tuesday, which was signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo.

In the official statement, Alabo disclosed that the command was deeply saddened by the fatal encounter involving the security personnel who were actively deployed on guard duty at the premier policy training institution. He stated, “The Plateau State Command, on a very sad note, wishes to confirm the incident that occurred in the early hours of today, 16th June 2026, involving security personnel on duty at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru. Regrettably, three security personnel lost their lives during the incident.”

Following the deadly breach, the police command moved swiftly to bolster the defensive layout around the strategic facility to deter any subsequent security threats. Highlighting the immediate tactical response ordered by the state police leadership, SP Alabo stated, “Security reinforcements have been deployed, and patrols have been intensified around the general area by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah,”

The police image maker also used the opportunity to address lingering anxieties within the immediate vicinity of the institute, assuring members of the public that tactical stabilization efforts had yielded immediate results. He noted, “The situation is under control and normal activities have resumed,”

Speaking on the immediate next steps being taken by law enforcement to track down the perpetrators of the assault, the command indicated that its tactical and investigative teams had already swung into action to unmask the assailants. The statement added, “Investigation is ongoing. The command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.” The PPRO concluded by stating, “Further updates will be communicated in due course.” The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies located in Kuru represents the premier policy training and orientation institution for top-tier public officials and senior administrators in Nigeria, with the latest encounter marking one of the most severe security challenges recorded at the facility in recent memory.
