Governor Dapo Abiodun has appealed to aspirants within the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State to prioritize consensus building and respect local government zoning arrangements as the party prepares for upcoming electoral cycles. During a strategic meeting in Abeokuta with various legislative aspirants and grassroots leaders the governor emphasized that unity through dialogue is essential for maintaining the party’s competitive strength. He stated that while many members possess the necessary qualifications to contest only one individual can emerge for a specific office at a given time and urged aspirants to avoid the bitterness and financial strain often associated with divisive primary contests. To encourage cooperation Abiodun pledged to refund nomination form fees to those who do not secure party tickets and assured them of future government appointments and significant roles within the state administration.
The governor clarified that he does not intend to act as a dictator or impose candidates instead relying on extensive consultations with local stakeholders to recommend the most suitable representatives for their respective constituencies. Drawing from his own political journey which began in 1993 and culminated in his election as governor in 2019 he encouraged party members to remain patient and disciplined noting that persistent commitment to the party often leads to eventual success. Prominent party elders including Gbenga Kaka and Iyabo Apampa have commended the initiative as a pragmatic approach to managing internal competition while rewarding partisan loyalty. This strategy is viewed as a critical effort to consolidate the party’s position in Ogun State by fostering deep internal cohesion and discouraging the kind of friction that can lead to anti party activities or external defections during the selection process.
