Three travelers who were kidnapped near Port Harcourt along the Obiri-Kwere-Airport Road have been freed from captivity after gunmen seized them on Tuesday. The abduction occurred around 4 pm when armed individuals intercepted vehicles, forcibly removed occupants, and took them to an undisclosed location.
Their release happened more than 24 hours after the Rivers State Police Command dispatched tactical teams and Divisional Police Officers to the scene to bolster security measures.
Confirming the development, the command's spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, informed reporters on Friday that the captives had been reunited with their families. She attributed their release to the intensified presence of law enforcement following directives from the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, who instructed officers to ensure the safe return of those abducted.
Expressing satisfaction with the relatively peaceful festive season, Iringe-Koko urged law-abiding citizens to continue aiding the police by providing relevant information to apprehend criminals.
The incident, though distressing, concluded with the safe return of the kidnapped individuals, while authorities stress the importance of community involvement in maintaining security and peace within the state.
