An automobile technician, Oluwaseyi Timothy Adeyemi, has narrated how his family has continued to live in panic and fear following his refusal to worship deity in their lineage known as Orisa Durojaye.
The 43-year-old technician is pleading for help after his wife, Opeyemi Olawumi Adeyemi went missing, allegedly due to his refusal to worship his family's deity.
Adeyemi in a press conference insisted that his wife was taken by a group of people who claimed to be acting on behalf of the deity.
Narrating his ordeal, the automobile technician said he started having problems with Orisa Durojaye worshippers in his family after the death of his father.
He said the family insisted that he must take over the family's deity after his father's death, lamenting that every efforts to refuse it were rejected.
The father of two added that his wife was first abducted by some members of his family who reportedly threatened to keep her until he is ready to yield to their demand.
He added, "My name is , age 43-year-old and my wife Opeyemi Olawumi Adeyemi, 32 year old, I have two children. The first one is a 6 years old boy and the second one is a girl who's 4 years old.
"I am an automobile technician and my wife is a Teacher. I am from Kabba Kogi state. But I live in Lagos, Nigeria.
"I am seeking help from people and authorities to help us. It's all about the diety (Orisa) our family worshiped for protection and wealth since the time of our forefathers.
"There's this diety we worship in our family. The name of the diety is ORISA DUROJAYE at Adeyemi compound, it's a very powerful and demonic deity which always monitors every member of the family spiritually.
"The diety started dealing with me after the death of my father which was on the 19th October 2019. Before he passed on he had told me so many things about our family diety which we call ORISA DUROJAYE.
"He explained to me as the first born of the family how he has being the one carrying the diety (orisa) after he's brother died, he further told me about it that after he has passed on, I (Oluwaseyi) will be next in line to continue from wherever he stops.
"He also told me when they want to administer me as the custodian of the diety, I would need have to bring my first daughter when she is 4 years old for female genital mutilation and that will affect her as she is growing and they will also give her tribal marks.
"My father revealed to me that my late sister Esther died as a result of the family diety.
"Since my dad has passed on they have been disturbing me to come, that it is my turn to carry it since my dad is late. And they are asking me to bring my daughter down for female genital mutilation on the diety for the progress of the family spiritually that since she's of age now and it's time for me to release her for the ritual."
Adeyemi, however, said his family now living in fear of retribution, calling on the authorities to investigate the disappearance.
He lamented that his wife has gone missing since November 18, 2023 and every efforts to find her has not yielded result.
"I have been facing different and so many attacks to the point that my wife was kidnapped and I was called to come with my daughter but i refused to take my daughter to them as sacrifice for the family diety.
"I just have to meet them myself to make an agreement with them to tell them when I will be coming with my daughter for the sacrifice so they can release my wife for me in peace, and I told them June 13th 2023 and we agreed. But after the date I gave them elapsed, they started calling me, looking for me everywhere to the point that I have to change my phone line and started running staying in different hotels up till now.
"I was also attacked in October, 2023. These diety adherents also set my inherited animal and crop farm on fire alongside my automobile workshop.
"Everything I have was burnt down to aches including some customers vehicles which put me in a serious debt. I had to sell all my properties just to pay some of the debt by buying back some customers vehicles.
"Since then my life has not been the same. My family has been running from one place to the other because these people have a strong network of getting their information because some of them are in authority in Nigeria.
"For now I don't even know where my wife is since November 18th 2023. She told me she was going to get a loan from her friend so we can add it with the little money we have to relocate to another country. But she is nowhere to be found since then till this moment.
"I reached out to her parent but they said they have not heard from her that I should make sure i look for her and even her cell phone is switched off and it's unreachable.
"I have tried all my best to locate her even from her family members but all my effort was aborted so I have to keep running for my dear life and the life of my children because they are mylife and my happiness. So, I just have to protect them with my last blood.
"My family are living in fear, panicking and anxiety. On so many occasions I have reported to the police as a way of protecting ourselves, but the police made me understand that it is a traditional matter and not a civil matter so there is nothing they can do about it.
"I have also lost hope in security agencies of the country so I and my kids have to run for our dear lives to anywhere that is safe."
