Some Commissioners and youths who have represented Ogun state well in all ramifications have been selected across the state for Merit Award.
While addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital on Tuesday, the convener of the award event, Bukola Okuneye, said the awardees were selected based on their contributions to the development of the state.
Okuneye emphasized the desire to make the state great in culture and events as well as showcase the creativity of the youth's birth in the award program.
According to her, as part of our efforts to make our dear State Ogun great in culture and events, know that the state is blessed with people that have represented well in all ramifications. We at the elegant event had deemed it fit to crown the effort of people who have been contributing to the development of our dear state in all sectors.
"Adding values was not just ideas to showcase but to encourage our youths and other personalities who would in one way or another see our awardees as mentor role models that they can look up to in their callings or professions.
"We have seen many Ogun youths both at home and in Diaspora that have represented us well, in their calling, like Anthony Joshua, Tobi Amusan, Leycon of Big Brother Naija, Faith Odunsi who won cowbell media in mathematics quiz and many more."
The convener stated further that the Elegant event, the brand that is organizing had taken a bold step in finding a way to reward some heroes who have done commendably well in their various fields.
She, however, urged the states and federal governments to take responsive actions to compensate the country's heroes, adding that it would motivate and encourage others to contribute to the development of their state and nation at large.
She also called on governor Abiodun to adopt the idea by setting up a committee that would be looking into the affairs of heroes both home and diaspora.
"On this note, OGUN MERIT AWARDS were organised to decorate several people that were carefully selected to merit the award."
The Chairman planning committee for the event, Habeeb White said "They are being honored because you are doing something different. It is a merit award. If any of our awardees are found wanting, we would withdraw the award.
"We are considering our awardees based on their contributions to the growth of Ogun state. It is high time our state government began to do something like this for youths in the state."
