New Nigeria People's Party has chosen Ezekiel Fayoyin, a businessman as its consensus candidate to contest the governorship position in Ogun State come 2023.
Fayoyin emerged as the consensus candidate following the agreement by the State Executive Council on Friday.
In a statement signed by the State Executive members and chairmen from 19 LGs, the constitutional provision of the NNPP acceded with the decision.
The statement reads in part: "In accordance to the procedure of nomination of candidate for the gubernatorial election in conformity with the provision of section 84(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, and in compliance with article 13(9) of NNPP's constitution the undersigned further to the provision of the section 84 of the Electoral Act on the nomination of candidate for the gubernatorial Election to be conducted in a democratic manner.
"In our attempt to ensure peace, unity and harmony, the Ogun NNPP State Executive Council members hereby today 2 of June, 2022 nominate and endorse Hon. Olujobi Ezekiel Fayoyin as the candidate of Ogun NNPP for the 2023 Gubernatorial Election by consensus.
"All the State Executive Members in including Chairmen of the 20 Local Government of Ogun State unanimously signed here to affirm and confirm the candidacy of Fayoyin as our consensus candidate for the 6th of June Gubernatorial Primaries election of New Nigeria People's Party Ogun State."
