Gov Abiodun's 'irresponsibility' caused Lafenwa fire disaster, says NNPP chair, Oginni

 

The Ogun state chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Comrade Oginni Olaposi has insisted the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun should be held responsible for the fire disaster that occurred in Lafenwa are of Abeokuta in the state. 


Comrade Oginni maintained that the disaster could have been avoided had the state government been more responsible by answering to the people's fore-cry. 


The NNPP chair while expressing his heartfelt displeasure over the incident, complained that he had on several occasions called the attention of the government to the bad road in Lafenwa to prevent calamity. 


He stressed that a "responsible and responsive" government should not wait until calamity happened before protecting the lives of the people. 


He added, "I am using this medium to commiserate with the victims of Lafenwa fire incident that happened earlier today. I have visited the scene to sympathise with our market men and women on this avoidable calamity. 


''It is highly unfortunate that the government of governor Dapo Abiodun become so irresponsible to listen to the cry of our people concerning the dilapidated roads in Lafenwa area. 


"A responsible and responsive should not wait until when calamity and the lost of lives and property before they will now what to do concerning the protection of our people. 


"It's highly unfortunate that governor Dapo Abiodun failed to yield to the cry of even the opposition party. I have been on different radio programme to call on the governor to do something about Lafenwa road." 


He further lamented that the market being one of the commercial hubs of the state capital. 


He described the incident as a great lost of lives and property. 


"It's highly unfortunate today that we are mourning. We have lost precious lives and property and most of the economy of our people are now in jeopardy in the state capital. Because Lafenwa is one of the main markets. It's the hub of commercial activities in the state capital, Abeokuta." 


The NNPP chair however, called on fire agency to move to the scene to rescue survivors. 


"NNPP sincerely want to call on the National Emergency Agency (NEMA) to please come to the aid of the victims of this fire incident. We need the support of the federal government to bring succour to the victims of Lafenwa market fire disaster."


He further condemned the irresponsibility on the part of the state government, charging them to do the needful. 


"As a matter of fact, the Ogun state government should do something as a matter of urgency to make sure that lives and property are protected. There must be a declaration of state of emergency on Ogun state roads. 


"This calamity is unnecessary. It's avoidable. It's shouldn't even happened if the government had arisen to the responsibility of giving us a very good road. 


"We call on governor Dapo Abiodun to apologise to the good people of Ogun state to the lost of lives and property at Lafenwa and as a matter of urgency commence construction of this road with immediate effect. We should not wait until the lives of our people are wasted on the road before any government that is responsible will take action. 


"We saw human being been burnt. This should not have happened. This is groy experience as you can see, what this government is doing to our people is an heinous crime against the good people of Ogun state. 


"Therefore we are appealing to this government on their irresponsibility to be responsible at least for once. 


"Palliative on this road we have been calling but they refused to answer. In fact, we are bleeding and crying now because precious lives of future leaders are being lost in Ogun state. Therefore, it's time for the good people of Ogun state to pray for the advent of new government for a new Ogun state that will use her in a new government in 2023."
